WEB PACS TUTORIAL

Getting Started

1. If you are already a registered user, enter your login ID and password into the "WebPACS Login" panel on the right.

2. If you are a new user, go to the free registration page and fill in the required fields.

Using the worklist

1. Select preferred compression level in the Compression drop-down list or use the default determined by the system as the best option. Higher compression helps images load faster on the low-bandwidth networks.

2. The “Exact colors” option in the compression level drop-down list enables raw unmodified data downloading, allowing to view more than 8-bit grayscale images.

3. Select your system RAM memory size from the System Memory drop-down list or use the default (64-128M). More available memory will reduce repeated image downloads.

4. Select patient from the list by mouse and click View First Series to start working with images. You can also double-click record in the list to navigate between Patient, Study, Series and Image levels and then use View Series or View Image at any level.

Working with medical data

1. To select the layout of displayed images, click the arrow on the side of the All button and select a new layout. Pressing "All" or double-clicking on image area will enable the display of all images in optimal layout. If you have multiple images, double-click on the image area or press All button to switch between automatic and custom views.

2. Press Zoom, W/L or Cine and drag the mouse over the image with left button pressed to use the selected function. To select the sub-option of selected tool (currently available for Zoom to switch to pan), click on the image area when holding Ctrl key to open tool option menu.

3. Press ROI or Size and click two points on the image to begin the ROI/distance measurement. Drag and drop to adjust these points. The measured values are shown on the status bar below the image area.

4. Click Flip to obtain mirrored images. Click on the arrow next to Flip to select axis of symmetry.

5. Click Next or Prev to navigate between series within one study. If the series were previously downloaded and the computer had enough RAM to cache them, they will be extracted from cache memory to improve the Web PACS performance.

6. Click Reset to restore the original display parameters.

Using Study Notes

1. Click Notes to open Study Notes dialog. The top window indicates the notes posted for this study before. Add your notes in the bottom window, and press Append Note. Your notes for the study will be added to the server database and will be visible to all users with access to this study.

Using DICOM File Upload

1. On the Web PACS page, click the Upload Data link on the very top.

2. Click Browse and locate a file to upload from your local hard drive. At a time, you can upload either a zip archive containing DICOM files or a single DICOM file.

3. You may add optional study notes in the corresponding window.

4. The DICOM files you upload may be anonymized before saving them to the Web PACS server. In this case, all patient-identifying tags will be replaced with some random strings. To enable anonymization, check Anonymize checkbox. Also, you may supply a name to identify the new anonymized patient in the New patient name field.

5. Click Upload Patient Data to send selected file to the Universal PACS server. Please allow some time for uploading, depending on your network connection speed and size of the uploaded file.

6. In the worklist window, click Start Search and Ok to get all patient records from server database. You will be able to see all patients that were added to the server database.

Granting study access to other users, method 1

1. Open the worklist by clicking WList. Select the patient that was previously uploaded.

2. Double-click the patient name to switch to the Study level

3. Click Change Access Rights to grant/deny to other users read-only access to this study. When the access is granted, the other users will not see the patient name, but will be able to view the patient’s images and leave their comments. The “open lock” icon in the Patient Name field indicates that the other users can see this study. The “closed lock” icon indicates that only the person who uploaded this study can see and work with it.

Granting study access to other users, method 2

1. Load the series you want to give access to a third person to the Web PACS.

2. Click the “Patient Info” area located to the left of common button toolbar. This will open “Advanced Patient Info” window.

3. Select and copy the first record named Web Link to clipboard, by selecting it and pressing Ctrl+C (for Windows). To select the entire address, you may need to scroll to the left.

4. Insert this encrypted link into web browser address bar (Ctrl+V in Windows) to make sure it opens the same series.

5. You can send this link to others who you want to view this series. They will not see any other of your images.
