TOUGH CASE

Our "Tough Case" section is designed as a meeting point for patients looking for help, and medical experts who can provide any assistance - worldwide. Very often, even some small advice or observation can guide in the right direction, and further help may become a long-awaited cure.

If you can share any helpful experience for any of our Tough Cases, please do so contacting us or the person who needs your help. If yopu cannot help but know anyone who can, please forward this page to them.

As for UniPACS, we plan to make Tough Case a free and permanent service. If our work helps solve even one of these cases, we will consider it as the highest reward!

Sergei is a bright 32-year-old fellow, confined to a wheelchair because of the spine injury. His spinal cord was damaged (even though not torn completely) in a car accident 7 years ago. Two surgeries conducted soon after the accident had not improved his condition. Please use our Web PACS interface to view Sergei's recent spine images and provide us or Sergei with any feedback about his case. We realize that his chances to get better might be slim, but we are looking for any practical advice or help that could improve his current state, including the complications from the injury (such as liver problems).

Here is how you can view Sergei's images:
1. Open Web PACS with Sergei's images by clicking here.
2. Sergei's images were overdeveloped and may appear darker than they are. Once the first series images are loaded, click on the "W/L" button and drag the mouse (with left mouse button pressed) over the image area to adjust image window/level for better viewing. Use other tools (Zoom, Pan, Size, etc) for better viewing.
3. You may want to click the "Cine" button to stack all the images (which will increase the image size too), and scroll trough them by dragging the mouse over the image area.
4. Use "Next" and "Prev" arrow buttons to navigate between the series.

If you have any information about this case, you may:
1. Send it directly to Sergei at anikeev@kaluga.ru.
2. Send it to us at opiany@gmail.com. We publish Sergei's images with his full content, and will share with him any helpful information that you can provide.
